ThinkGenetic is thrilled to announce that the first round of awards has been distributed to nine individuals requesting support. These individuals include genetic counselors, metabolic dietitians, and clinical research coordinators.
Due to the support of our sponsors like Horizon Therapeutics, ThinkGenetic provided “Learning and Leadership” and “Professional Fees” grants in 2023 to genetic counselors and dietitians.
Some examples of awards covering costs for educational events and certifications include:
- WORLD Symposium Annual Conference
- Society for Inherited Metabolic Disorders (SIMD) Annual Meeting
- American College of Medical Genetics Conference (ACMG)
- Genetic Metabolic Dietitians International Conference (GMDI)
- Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC) Certification
The ThinkGenetic Foundation established the Pro-GC program in 2022 to support genetic counselors, dietitians, nurses, students, and other ancillary providers via stipends and mentorship grants for professional support and career development.
Genetic counselors and patient-focused ancillary providers are healthcare professionals who work with individuals, families, communities, and other healthcare professionals to empower them to understand how genetic information impacts their lives or the lives of their patients.
Often these important professionals find there are monetary barriers to their career and professional development. The program’s goal is to lower financial barriers for dedicated professionals who wish to expand their specialty skill sets.
When asked about the need for funding, one award recipient stated, “Decreased funding, minimal raise in salary, and inflation have made it hard to attend. Last year I was unable to attend for these reasons. This program makes it feasible to attend and benefit from the advanced learning to ensure up-to-date patient care for our patients.”
ThinkGenetic will continue to accept applications for more stipends with the subsequent distributions taking place in the second half of 2023. To submit an application click here.
